KU Relay ideas
To the editor:
Congratulations to director Tim Weaver and to all those who helped to make the GOLDZONE II a great success.
I observed Saturday’s awesome program from the stands but my credentials include having been a volunteer official at the KU Relays for 42 years. Yes, it was great, but may I offer a few suggestions:
¢ Try to entice quality runners from other Big 12 schools. Now the meet appears to feature junior college and professional athletes.
¢ Recruit more top runners at KU. It is unfortunate that a local young lady who probably will be a national champion was lost to Michigan.
¢ Get some new uniforms. From the stands, one could not tell the KU athletes in their camouflage blue uniforms from high school and junior college athletes who also had blue uniforms.
¢ Break out the old hot pink trunks and blue tops that the champions used to wear. They were a great advertisement for great athletes and a great team. When one looked across the field, one could always see the KU athletes. Perhaps if we go back to the colors worn by those past champions, some of our athletes will strive to be worthy of wearing the hot pink and blue.
