AIDS Project director resigning, moving

Douglas County AIDS Project’s executive director, Geri Summers, has resigned.

“My partner has taken a job at Rutgers (University), so we’re moving – it’ll be sometime in July,” Summers said. “We’re looking for a replacement.”

Rutgers University is in New Brunswick, N.J.

Summers will remain on the job until a replacement is hired. “I’ve told my board I’ll do whatever is right for DCAP,” she said.

Summers, 43, has been with DCAP for three years. Usually, the agency’s caseload ranges between 65 and 80 people who are HIV positive or have AIDS.

“I really feel like it’s been an honor to work with this community in caring for people who have HIV and AIDS,” she said. “It’s been a privilege.”
