Bridge work to close part of county road

A section of Douglas County Road 1055 near Vinland will close later this week as a bridge is replaced and road improvements are made.

The $1.06 million project starts Thursday and will be completed by the end of September. Signs will inform motorists of detours.

The bridge on 1055 is immediately north of the Cedar Hill Gun Club. Motorists traveling south will detour to County Route 458, east to County Road 1057, then south to County Road 460 and west to Vinland.

The purpose of the project is to replace the structurally deficient bridge and to improve safety along the road, County Engineer Keith Browning said. A portion of County Road 1055 will be reconstructed.

The first two curves south of the bridge will be improved to meet 55 mph design criteria. The new roadway will have 8-foot-wide paved shoulders in addition to having the new bridge.

Local access to properties within the project limits will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Directions for accessing Cedar Hill will be installed.
