Officer injured when teen throws bicycle

A 17-year-old boy injured a Lawrence Police officer Tuesday afternoon when he threw a bicycle at him as the officer tried to serve a warrant.

Police said the school resource officer tried to take the juvenile suspect into custody when he approached Central Junior High School around 3 p.m.

But when the officer approached, the suspect threw his bike at the officer and fled on foot.

The officer was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries, police said. The suspect has not been arrested.
