Missing states

To the editor:

Lawrence uses, by my count, 38 state names for streets if you count Carolina and Dakota (no North or South) as State names. This leaves out Texas, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Washington, Wyoming Georgia, West Virginia, Hawaii, and Alaska. Neither the city traffic engineer nor the help desk at Watkins Community Museum of History could tell me why. Surely, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to include them by now. Is it just a fluke of history, or do we have a problem with certain states?

John Brewer,

Lawrence
