Heart knowledge

To the editor:

Saturday’s Journal-World article about Bart Ehrman has a familiar ring to it in light of the similar messages of “The Da Vinci Code” and the “Holy Blood, Holy Grail” books. It is apparent that there are those who want to discredit the truth of the Bible. This is not a new thing. This has been going on for thousands of years, but it is clear that the truth of the Bible has stood the test of time. God is certainly able to back up what he says in his word. I don’t need to defend God.

However, I would like to give testimony to the truth of the Bible. I have been a Christian about 58 years and a serious student of the Bible the latter half of those years. I can truthfully say that the marvelous truths of the Bible have become more and more evident in terms of its validity, inspiration and practicality. I am not a student of ancient Hebrew or Greek manuscripts, but I am a student of the Ancient of Days. Therein lies the difference.

Head knowledge has its value, but there is no comparison to the heart knowledge that is necessary to experience the wonders of knowing God. I don’t have an adequate vocabulary to describe the awesome privilege it is to know almighty God, but I do know that the Bible has been a valuable resource in my life to take me beyond the limits of my own understanding.
