Bus expansion
To the editor:
I have been a daily rider of the T since December and have nothing but good things to say about the service and its employees. That said, I only hope future studies will support the need for additional service on the west side of town.
If I am to continue to use the T, I will need to move because the round-trip service I require is not available to me.
There are a number of issues the city needs to address. One of those is public transit. Ridership has steadily grown, as has the city. A crosstown (north/south) bus on Iowa would eliminate west-side riders from needing to travel downtown to get to South Iowa.
Earlier starting times for west-side buses, in order to make downtown connections to get to work, would greatly enhance the appeal of public transit, especially at East Hills Business Park. Workers are scattered throughout the Lawrence area and need transportation.
It is a necessity, although not on the level of sewer upgrades, but if we are to continue building to the west, shouldn’t current as well as future public transportation be in the equation?
