Autopsy: Driver had meth, cocaine in body
A driver killed in a head-on wreck in December in downtown Lawrence had methamphetamine and traces of cocaine in his system, according to a recently finished autopsy report.
Wade Collins, 44, Lawrence, died in an early-morning wreck Dec. 22 after the minivan he was driving crossed the center line on eastbound Sixth Street near Kentucky Street and struck an oncoming pickup truck.
Collins, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. An autopsy filed in Douglas County District Court last month said he tested positive for methamphetamine and for substances produced when the body absorbs cocaine. His brother told a nurse at the hospital that Collins had been using methamphetamine the night before the wreck.
The cause of death, however, is listed as multiple injuries to his torso caused by the wreck.
