Free State rolls, 10-0

? Travis Blankenship continued a string of strong pitching performances for the Free State High baseball team, tossing a two-hit shutout as the Firebirds remained unbeaten with a 10-0 victory over Olathe Northwest in a game shortened to five innings at the College Boulevard Athletic Complex.

“It wasn’t his best performance, but it was certainly good enough,” said Free State coach Mike Hill of the left-hander, who improved to 3-0.

Blankenship received a wealth of offensive support, culminating in a six-run fifth.

Nick Ayre finished 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs for the Firebirds (6-0 overall, 2-0 Sunflower League).

“We had a businesslike day at the park. I’ll put it that way,” Hill said. “I think there’s still some things, particularly offensively, that we need to improve on.

“I think our goal is to click in all three facets of the game.”

Free State will return to action Thursday at home against Shawnee Mission Northwest.
