District’s projects come in under budget

The Lawrence school district’s bond construction projects have come in $1.9 million under budget.

The bid to rebuild South Junior High School and renovate Broken Arrow School came in $1 million under the $24 million budgeted for the project.

Bids for construction packages at Central, Southwest and West junior high schools have also come in lower than expected.

“That’s a pretty good cushion to have this early in the project,” said Tom Bracciano, the district’s facilities and operations director.

A bid for construction projects at Lawrence and Free State high schools is expected in mid-April.

Bracciano said the savings will be part of the contingency fund in case unexpected costs come up. If there is any money left over after construction is complete, Bracciano said it could be used to repay the bonds or for other improvements to the schools that are part of the bond issue.
