All Americans

To the editor:

This is a subject that I hesitate to bring up, but I wish that people living in this country would call it what it is – the United States of America. We are not “Americans.” We are citizens of the United States. The U.S.A. Acapulco is in America. So is Buenos Aires. So is Caracas. They are in Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela, but they are in America. And the people living there are Americans. Even the people coming into this country illegally from Mexico or Canada are Americans.

I see this mistake in newspapers and magazines and hear it on television. I realize that this is just one more thing on my wish list, like having KU basketball tickets or another car, but when I do hear someone say “United States” I think, “Great, I owe him a nickel.”
