Unfair restriction

To the editor:

In regard to the March 23 business page article, “Kansas meat packer seeks OK to test,” about testing for mad cow disease: Did the large meat packing industry lobby the agriculture department to not allow Creekstone Farms Premium Beef to test for the disease? The plant in Arkansas City wants to test each animal it processes as per requests from its customers – especially their Asian customers. The plant then sells its tested beef at their price to a willing buyer.

There have been three articles in the Journal-World about this plant’s attempts to market its meat on the world market. Not one word from our state or federal legislators has been published in support of this small independent Kansas meat packer. Why?

Deuteronomy 16:19 says: “Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.”
