Retired detective to speak on legalizing drugs
A former undercover narcotics officer will speak in Lawrence this weekend about why he thinks the war on drugs should end.
Jack Cole, a retired detective lieutenant with the New Jersey State Police, will speak at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Public Library.
Cole is executive director of “Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.” He argues that ending drug prohibition could correct problems with racial bias, corruption and brutality in law enforcement.
His visit is being publicized in advance by the Lawrence-based Drug Policy Forum of Kansas, a recently formed group that pushed for the city’s marijuana-possession cases to be moved from District Court to the more streamlined municipal court.
