More Kansas Guardsmen headed to Gulf Coast
Topeka ? The Kansas Army National Guard is doubling its presence in Louisiana and sending dozens of pieces of equipment as hurricane recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast continue in the wake of Katrina and Rita.
Another 140 guardsmen will be deployed Wednesday from the 242nd Engineer Company in Wichita, the 731st Medium Truck Company in Dodge City and the 714th Maintenance Company in Topeka.
The added personnel will bring to 300 the number of Kansas National Guardsmen mobilized in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The convoy departing from Wichita will include 20 cargo trucks, 20 tractors, 40 trailers and numerous wreckers, fuelers and other vehicles.
