Stand clarified

To the editor:

Some have interpreted my remarks (“Skeptic rejects global warming theory: Former Kansas Geological Survey director says humans aren’t responsible for hurricanes Katrina, Rita,” Sept. 24) as support for the position that humans are not affecting climate change. That is not correct.

Yes, natural mechanisms have affected climate change throughout the Earth’s geologic history, but the best scientific evidence shows that human-induced causes are a significant, if not predominant, cause of the current changes.
