Bad behavior
To the editor:
As a devoted Kansas University alumnus of several decades, I was pleased to attend the football game with Louisiana Tech on Sept. 17. The atmosphere was exciting, a beautiful evening, filled with the spirit, color, music and enthusiasm of college life.
Then the teams were introduced. As the men of Louisiana Tech ran in, they were met by a loud chorus of boos from the east stands, which reverberated throughout the stadium. How sad! Such poor sportsmanship!
That was a team with no long rivalry with KU, no basis for animosity. They had journeyed to Lawrence for a game when the families of many of the team members had been dislocated and had lost so much to Hurricane Katrina. They did not deserve to be treated cruelly and thoughtlessly by Jayhawk fans. I was ashamed.
Please, my fellow KU supporters, remember that football is a game for fun and extend to opposing teams the courtesy and sportmanship which honors KU, not that which diminishes its stature.
