Leavenworth ? Greg Glitz scored with six minutes remaining in the second overtime, leading the Free State High boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory Tuesday over Leavenworth in Sunflower League play.

Glitz, a sophomore, came free with the ball deep on the Leavenworth side of the field and banged in the game-winner off a Pioneers defender.

The Firebirds (4-1) took a 1-0 lead early in the second half when junior Drew Schelar scored off an assist by sophomore Alex Clayton.

They held that lead until just two seconds remained in the match, when Leavenworth tied the score on a free kick, forcing the extra frames.

“Our kids regrouped and battled hard and found a way to eke out a victory,” Free State coach Jason Pendleton said.

The Firebirds will play host to Shawnee Mission East at 4 p.m. Thursday.
