Delayed debt

To the editor:

Headline in Saturday’s Lawrence Journal-World: “Bush: No tax for Katrina cleanup.”

The president is telling us that we will not have to pay the cost of starting the Katrina cleanup and rebuilding process. The early estimate for startup is $200 billion – the ultimate cost, God only knows.

The president has also told us that we do not have to pay for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq – again, the final cost, God only knows.

I believe he is right we will not have to pay. However, our children and grandchildren most certainly will. What will that cost be? I suggest that cost will be the death of the American dream for those future generations.
