Jim McSwain, retiring chief of the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical department, will be honored Wednesday during a special reception and presentation.

The event will be from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Liberty Hall, 644 Mass. A presentation to McSwain will be made at 4:30 p.m.

McSwain is retiring this month after a 43-year career, 27 of them as Lawrence chief.
