Economic gap

To the editor:

How often must we as a nation of 280 million embark upon futile enterprises attempting to change a world of 6 billion population into what we consider an acceptable society?

The cost of this futile war in Iraq in terms of Iraqi and American lives, national treasure and loss of moral high ground and prestige is incalculable. Combine that with the export of the manufacturing and service sectors of America to Asia and the rapidly disappearing middle class makes it clear that economic Armageddon beckons. I fear the final result will be 2 percent of Americans at the top and 98 percent at the bottom.
