A Lawrence Catholic priest is seeking housing for at least five Asian families who lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina.

The Rev. Joseph Tung Dang said he has contact with the families who are from the Biloxi, Miss., area. Dang and a few volunteers have made two trips to that area to take supplies to the Asian community there.

Dang said the families need houses for five to seven members, including parents and children. If someone can provide a couple months of shelter free of rent, it would be appreciated, he said. Dang said he has checked with local public housing officials and was told nothing was available.

Dang also said he will be talking to local factories, warehouses and other businesses in search of jobs for the evacuees.
