Tune in tonight to help hurricane victims

Sunflower Broadband’s 6News viewers can help Hurricane Katrina victims tonight.

6News will present “Hurricane Katrina: We Care” live from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., during which viewers can make pledges to the relief agencies.

All proceeds go to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Local dignitaries will be answering the pledge lines. Among those scheduled to appear include Kansas University volleyball coach Ray Bechard, Hank Booth of KLWN/KLZR, KU softball coach Tracy Bunge, Jayni Carey of “Jayni’s Kitchen,” Cathy Hamilton of “Home and Away,” KU women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson, Free State football coach Bob Lisher, Douglas County Sheriff Ken McGovern, Eudora Mayor Tom Pyle, Eudora football coach Gregg Webb and Lawrence High football coach Dirk Wedd.

Viewers can call 856-8300 or toll-free at (866) 255-9018 to pledge. Phones will be open from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The special will be followed by 6News at 10 p.m.
