Speak up

To the editor:

It seems impossible as of late to go a day without hearing the woes of gas prices. What worries me most is that a fairly loud groan seems to be coming from our government agencies. It is as if all they need to do is make a little noise and they can get the bounce their budget needs. But that logic is unfounded for the rest of us.

As a working family, like thousands in this state, I will not receive a pay raise to cover the unforeseen rise in fuel costs. Rather I will be forced to decide where I want my dollar to go. In short, I will do without some piece of the pie that we deem less desirable (though not for lack of want). That is not a complaint, that’s real life. I, for one, believe our government should exist in real life. But in order for that to happen, it requires us as citizens to ask questions.

First and foremost, where is the money going to come from? This is a call not to conservatives or liberals, but to citizens. Remember that this government is … by the people, for the people. Too long have we forgotten that Uncle Sam exists for and works for US and not the other way around. Speak up now, or be prepared not only to dig into your pockets a little deeper at the filling station, but also when the tax man comes knocking.
