Law-related events slated at Dole Institute
The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics will host two events this upcoming week, including a discussion about the U.S. Supreme Court.
The first talk – titled “How Should the U.S. Constitution Be Interpreted?” – is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fred N. Six, retired Kansas Supreme Court justice, will moderate the panel, which will include Steve McAllister, former dean of the Kansas University School of Law, and Rick Levy, KU professor and constitutional law expert.
The second event, titled “Full Court Press: The Battle for the Supreme Court,” is set for 8 p.m. Thursday. It will focus on the pending nomination of John Roberts to fill the post of U.S. chief justice, the second court vacancy, and the politics of nominating and confirming justices.
Panelists will include Frederick McClure, legislative strategist for the confirmation of Justice Clarence Thomas in 1991, and political scientist Michael Comiskey, author of “Seeking Justices: the Judging of Supreme Court Nominees.”
Both events are free and open to the public. There will be open seating in the Dole Institute’s Hansen Hall.
