Applebee’s moving main office to Lenexa

Applebee’s International Inc. said Wednesday it would move its headquarters from Overland Park to Lenexa in 2007.

The casual dining chain said it had outgrown its current building, which it moved into in 1993, with more than 100 employees working in leased space at a nearby former skating rink.

Once open, the new building will have capacity for 500 employees, the company said.

Chairman and chief executive Lloyd Hill said the company considered locations in both Kansas and Missouri before selected the new spot, which will open in the summer or fall of 2007.

Applebee’s operates 1,745 restaurants in 49 states and 12 countries.
