Lawrence salesman charged in N.M. killing

A traveling magazine salesman from Lawrence is one of five people suspected in the death of a man killed Thursday after a bar fight in Santa Fe, N.M., according to The Associated Press.

Jason D. Furden, 27, Lawrence, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder, conspiracy and tampering with evidence, according to Santa Fe police. Dewell Keith Lafleur, 30, of Chesterfield, Mich.; James Combs, 20, of St. Clair, Mich.; Joshua Burgess, 23, of Miamisburg, Ohio; and Andrew Long, 22, of Liberty, Mo., were arrested on similar charges.

Police said they were working for a company called Mega Sales.

“The information they gave us is that they travel around doing door-to-door magazines sales,” said Eric Johnson, deputy police chief in Santa Fe.

They’re suspected of killing Benjamin E. Suazo, 32, who was pronounced dead early Thursday after a fight in the parking lot of a bowling alley and bar.

“Preliminary autopsy shows injuries consistent with a beating and being run over by a vehicle,” Johnson said.
