Logo laughs

To the editor:

So the mighty University of Kansas feels it must challenge the upstart Pennsylvania university that seems to have taken its logo. Or perhaps it just feels that it has to save face after spending a bundle on a creative marketing campaign which delivered a logo that really wasn’t all that creative.

At least Kutztown University gets its initials in the right order when it proclaims itself to be “KU.” The University of Kansas has it backward, calling itself “KU” when it seemingly should be “UK.” Of course, perhaps they fear lawsuits from either the University of Kentucky or even the United Kingdom.

At least we get some giggling mileage out of this story. But if the University of Kansas is really upset, perhaps they should take a cue from the University of Pennsylvania. They tend to go by “Penn,” perhaps because they can hear the seventh-grade humor in being called either “UP” or “PU.”

Of course, the downside is that would put the University of Kansas in the “Kan” – which is perhaps where this logo story should be.
