To the editor:

It’s time we take the slogan “KU First” at face value, whether it’s moving home football games to Missouri or building scholarship halls in Oread. The university does what it feels is the best/most profitable for itself. Maybe it’s time to think “Lawrence First.” When KU expands off campus into areas where the city has traditionally collected property taxes, we should continue to collect those taxes.

That would partially make up for revenue lost by moving home football games to Missouri. With some thought, we can come up with ideas to replace the income lost to our small business owners. It is time for the community to wake up and get proactive before all we get is the beer bottles in our yards.
