Restaurants report refund scam
Employees of several Lawrence businesses have reported people coming into their establishments since Sunday and aggressively seeking refunds.
Sam Hunsaker, Juice Stop district manager, said two men called his stores on Massachusetts Street, Clinton Parkway and Sixth Street claiming they found glass or plastic in their food. They told employees that they already spoke with a manager and were told they would get a full refund, then came to the restaurants and tried to get the money from a clerk without showing a receipt or talking to a manager.
Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman, said police dispatch records showed there were at least two other similar incidents at other businesses in recent days. He encouraged anyone else who lost money as a result of the scam to report it to the department at 841-7210.
