Bike lanes needed

To the editor:

This is in regard to the increased number of bicyclists on the streets of Lawrence.

It’s nice to see so many people riding bicycles to work and school, particularly in light of the world’s dwindling supply of fossil fuels.

However, with regard to the safety of bicyclists, the lack of “bicycle lanes” in the city of Lawrence is disturbing!

Most progressive communities, such as Johnson County, Kan., and metro-Denver, have adequate bicycle lanes.

Bicycle lanes are safer for the bicyclists and less stressful for the auto driver.

Furthermore, bicycle lanes might entice “scaredy cats,” like me, to park the car and ride their bicycle more often.
