West Junior High teacher honored

West Junior High teacher Sandy Collins has received the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for the state of Kansas from the National Association of Biology Teachers. She will be recognized at the Nov. 14 Board of Education meeting.

Collins has taught biology is Lawrence public schools for 18 years. She teaches four sections of honors biology and two sections of biology. She also is as an assistant tennis coach and is chair of the science department. Collins has served as president, vice president and as a member of the board of directors for the Kansas Association of Biology Teachers. She is also a member of the Kansas Association of Teachers of Science, National Association of Biology Teachers, and the National Science Teachers’ Assn.

The National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) selects one biology educator annually in each of the 50 states to receive its Outstanding Biology Teacher Award.
