Bud Light sales top ‘King of Beers’

Budweiser may be Anheuser-Busch’s flagship brand, but the “King of Beers” has a way to go before it can claim the throne as the area’s top-selling company brand.

Bud Light is the top-selling brand for O’Malley Beverage of Kansas Inc., which recently took over the Lawrence-based distributor of Anheuser-Busch products in Douglas, Leavenworth, Franklin, Jefferson, Atchison and Anderson counties.

Kevin O’Malley, co-owner of O’Malley Beverage, said that the company’s sales broke down as follows:

¢ Bud Light: 44 percent

¢ Budweiser, which includes Budweiser Select: 16 percent

¢ Natural Light: 13 percent

¢ Busch Light: 10 percent

¢ Busch: 7 percent

¢ Michelob Ultra: 3 percent

¢ Other: 7 percent

Classic Eagle Distributing LLC, which operated the distributor before O’Malley beverage, purchased $10 million worth of Anheuser-Busch products and services from the St. Louis-based brewer last year.
