Area volunteers headed to New Orleans area

The LEO Center Hurricane Relief effort has been established to work with the School of Urban Missions in New Orleans.

Volunteers from local churches will be leaving Saturday for a one-week mission to assist residents in Gretna, a New Orleans suburb. They will conduct cleanups, roof repairs, tree removals, meal service and other jobs.

Local churches are asking for help in obtaining things like branch cutters, gas powered blowers, work gloves, face masks and numerous other items. For more details, call (785) 218-1617.

Donations can be taken to the LEO Center parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The parking lot is north of Seventh and New York streets. The collections will continue Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The LEO Center is a nonprofit, charitable Christian organization with services that include an immediate medical care clinic, pregnancy assistance, food pantry and biblical counseling services.
