To the editor:

As the sponsors of the family from New Orleans that felt obliged to decline the city’s offer of refuge and instead to stay in Louisiana to assist other families of children with disabilities, we regret that they were unable to come to Lawrence. This community would have nourished them and they in turn would have contributed in their own, unique fashion.

Lawrence’s generosity is most recently and properly manifest to the Vietnamese family from Mississippi and before then has been extended to many other families and individuals in need of sustenance, shelter and sanctuary. We are grateful to live in this extraordinary, world-conscious village.
