A Lawrence man scratched his way to a $10,000 jackpot last week, according to the Kansas Lottery.

Wyatt Barnes bought a $2 Santa Claws scratchers ticket Nov. 25 from the Zarco 66 at 1415 W. Sixth St., and, by matching two different numbers on the ticket, walked away with the $10,000 grand prize.

“He was the first person to win the grand prize so far,” lottery spokeswoman Madinah Hazim said.

The chances of winning the prize are one in 12,000, Hazim said. There are three more grand prizes left in the holiday-themed lottery series.

According to the lottery, Barnes planned to spend the money on Christmas gifts, a truck, bills and maybe a vacation.
