Couple convicted of robbing grandmother

A Jefferson County man and his wife have been convicted of stealing from his grandmother’s life savings during a three-year period, Atty. Gen. Phill Kline announced Tuesday.

Michael Wurm, 44, and Nancy Wurm, 53, pleaded no contest recently in Jefferson County District Court to theft charges.

The Wurms were charged with stealing nearly $400,000 from the bank accounts of Michael Wurm’s grandmother. The thefts started in 1999, when Wurm’s grandmother gave him durable power of attorney, and lasted until her funds were depleted in 2003.

Michael Wurm was convicted of 10 counts of felony theft, and Nancy Wurm was convicted of six counts of misdemeanor theft.

Both face probation under Kansas sentencing guidelines. They will be sentenced Jan. 12.

The case was prosecuted by Kline’s office.
