Poor service

To the editor:

Those of us who live in southwest Lawrence have long been the stepchildren of the postal (dis)service.

While people in other parts of the city consistently receive their mail around 11 a.m., we are lucky to get ours by 5 p.m. and, more often than not, even later.

Upon inquiry to the Jayhawk Post Office, I was told that the reason for our late delivery is a lack of available carriers. They have, I was told, repeatedly “begged” for more carriers to no avail.

We have seen a yearly increase in postage rates, which, unfortunately, has not resulted in better service.

I am fed up about below par service from the U.S. Postal Service. We deserve better.
