Many offices, services closed for holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

They also will be closed in most area towns.

All city, county and state offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Federal offices in the General Services Administration will be closed Thursday.

Banks will be closed Thursday.

Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run Thursday but will return to regular schedule Friday. On Friday, the arrival of Santa Claus between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the rooftop of Weaver’s Department Store at Ninth and Massachusetts streets may disrupt bus routes.

City of Lawrence trash collection will be altered to make Thursday’s pickups on Friday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Thursday.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Recreation centers will close at 5 p.m. today, and only the East Lawrence and Holcom Park recreation centers and the Community Building will reopen from noon to 6 p.m. Friday. All centers will resume normal hours Saturday.

The post office won’t make deliveries Thursday and will return to regular schedule Friday. Express Mail deliveries will be made Thursday.

Only UPS SonicAir is available Thursday.

Only UPS air and international deliveries will be made Friday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Liquor stores will be closed Thursday.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday.

USA Today won’t be delivered Thursday.
