KU issues alert on computer virus

Kansas University’s information services division has sent out an e-mail virus alert urging computer users to delete e-mail messages that claim to be from the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Central Intelligence Agency.

When users access the attached ZIP file, the virus installs hidden software. Once infected, a computer may work at a slower pace.

The virus can cause the computer to become unstable and eventually crash, said Allison Rose Lopez, public relations/marketing manager for information services.

“When in doubt, delete,” Lopez said.
