Pendletons named ‘Family of the Year’

The owners of a family business are being recognized as Kansas Farm Bureau Family of the Year for the farm organization’s east-central Kansas district.

John and Karen Pendleton – along with their son, William, second from left – received the award from district director George Pretz, right, during Farm Bureau’s annual meeting Nov. 11-12 in Manhattan.

The award is given to recognize families for their service and leadership in agriculture, their communities and Farm Bureau.

The Pendletons were among 10 families given district awards. They will receive an expense-paid trip to California this spring.

The Pendletons own Pendleton’s Country Market east of Lawrence, where they have greenhouses for tomatoes and bedding plants, six acres of flowers for dried arrangements, and 25 acres of asparagus. They also farm 450 acres of corn and soybeans.
