Lack of respect

To the editor:

On Nov. 13 at about 4:30 p.m., my husband and a family friend were done cutting a cornfield for another family who was down sick. We pulled out of the field to take the combine and tractor home. I was in a truck following to make sure no one would run into them or pass them when they were turning.

We were in the eastbound lane of old K-10 Highway about a half mile from East 1900 Road when the combine broke down. The flashers were turned on the machinery and truck, and a family friend with a flashlight was directing traffic.

People went by us like we weren’t even there or they slowed down and went into the other lane around us. Some passed the slow-moving vehicles while traffic was coming from the other direction.

I was flabbergasted by all of the drivers who went by and couldn’t care less about the safety of the people or machinery on the side of road. I was very disappointed in regard to the respect farmers get from people.

The men worked diligently to get the combine fixed and finally around 8 p.m. got it running long enough to get over into a field and off the side of road.

Where would everyone be if it were not for farmers? Farmers supply the stuff for the food you eat. Farmers have every right to be on the roads just like everyone else.
