Weseman’s contract renewed

Superintendent expresses desire to retire in 3 years

Lawrence school Supt. Randy Weseman isn’t going anywhere.

Board of Education members on Monday voted unanimously to extend Weseman’s contract for three years.

Weseman also received a 5.5 percent raise in pay, putting his annual salary at $139,770.

“We are very, very pleased with what he has done,” said board President Leonard Ortiz.

Board member Sue Morgan called the extension and raise “well deserved.”

Afterward, Weseman, who is 56, said he likely will retire after the 2007-08 school year when the new contract, which begins with the current school year, ends.

“I’ll be pretty close to 60,” he said, noting he already has enough “points” to retire under the state’s pension formula.

“I’m feeling really good being here,” he said. “I really feel like we’re hitting our stride in the district. I’m looking forward to another three years.”
