Show respect

To the editor:

As a parent of a fourth-grader in a Lawrence public school, I have noticed that custodians are addressed by students and teachers alike by their first name only. Teachers, parents and other employees of the school are always addressed as Mr., Mrs. or Ms. This disparity suggests a class hierarchy based on one’s occupation and assumed level of education. I believe that all adults in our schools should be addressed with an equal amount of respect.
