Former U.N. official to speak at KU
A former United Nations assistant secretary general will speak Nov. 29 at Kansas University about “The United Nations and the United States: Controversy and Opportunity.”
Gillian Sorensen, senior adviser at the United Nations Foundation, will give the lecture at 8 p.m. in Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union. She will deliver the 2005-06 KU Peace and Conflict Studies Lecture, and the event will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
Sorensen served as assistant secretary general for external affairs from 1997 to 2003. She was responsible for U.N. outreach to civil society and nongovernmental organizations around the world.
Sorensen also worked as special adviser for public policy to U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali from 1993 to 1996.
The lecture will be free and open to the public.
