Protection One trims quarterly loss

Protection One Inc., a Lawrence-based provider of monitored-security services, narrowed its loss for the third quarter as it reported a boost in recurring monthly revenue.

Protection One, based in the I-70 Business Center in North Lawrence, reported a net loss of $3.3 million, or 18 cents a share, for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of $16.7 million, or $8.47 a share, for the same period a year earlier. Last year’s per-share loss reflects the effects of a one-for-50 reverse stock split.

Richard Ginsburg, president and chief executive officer, said the company’s retail recurring revenue was up 13 percent for the quarter, despite the effects of hurricanes that resulted in the company suspending billing in affected areas.
