21 Kansans killed in Iraq, Afghanistan

Listed alphabetically are the 21 Kansans who have died in combat in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, through Friday.

At least 2,056 U.S. troops have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,604 died from hostile action, according to the military.

¢ Army Sgt. Jacob L. Butler, 24, Wellsville, assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley. Died April 1, 2003, in Samawah.

¢ Army Cpl. Juan Cabral Banuelos, 25, Emporia, assigned to Company A, 4th Forward Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died Jan. 31, 2004, in Kirkuk.

¢ Army Sgt. Don A. Clary, 21, Troy, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, Kansas National Guard, Horton. Died Nov. 8, 2004, in Baghdad.

¢ Marine Pfc. Ryan R. Cox, 19, Derby, assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif. Died June 15, 2003, in Najaf.

¢ Army Pvt. Jeremy L. Drexler, 23, Topeka, assigned to 91st Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died May 2, 2004, in Baghdad.

¢ Army Spc. Lucas A. Frantz, 22, Tonganoxie, assigned to 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry, 172nd Stryler Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Died Oct. 18, 2005, in Mosul.

¢ Army 2nd Lt. James Michael Goins, 23, Bonner Springs, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died Aug. 15, 2004, in Najaf.

¢ Army Spc. Joseph F. Herndon II, 21, Derby, assigned to 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Died July 29, 2004, in Hawijah.

¢ Army Pvt. Dustin L. Kreider, 19, Riverton, assigned to 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany. Died March 21, 2004, near Samarra.

¢ Army Spc. Josph L. Lister, 22, Pleasanton, assigned to 1st Battalion, 34th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley. Died Nov. 20, 2003, in Ramadi.

¢ Army Spc. Derrick J. Lutters, 24, Goodland, assigned to Company A, 891st Engineer Battalion, Kansas National Guard. Died May 1, 2005, in Baghdad.

¢ Army Spc. Dustin K. McGaugh, 20, Derby, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 17th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill, Okla. Died Sept. 30, 2003, in Balad.

¢ Army 1st Sgt. Timmy J. Millsap, 39, Wichita, assigned to 70th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley. Died April 25, 2005, in Taji.

¢ Army Sgt. Benjamin C. Morton, 24, Wright, assigned to 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade), Fort Lewis, Wash. Died May 22, 2005, in Mosul.

¢ Army Sgt. Evan S. Parker, 23, Arkansas City, assigned to 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery Regiment, 20th Brigade Combat Team, Honolulu, Hawaii. Died Oct. 26, 2005, in Balad.

¢ Marine Sgt. Christopher S. Perez, 30, Hutchinson, assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Died May 23, 2005, in Ramadi.

¢ Air Force Staff Sgt. Dustin W. Peters, 25, El Dorado, assigned to 314th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. Died July 11, 2004, near Forward Operating Base Summerall.

¢ Marine Cpl. Michael R. Speer, 24, Uniontown, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Died April 9, 2004, in Anbar Province.

¢ Army Spc. Kyle G. Thomas, 23, Topeka, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Fort Ederle, Italy. Died Sept. 25, 2003, in Tikrit.

¢ Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher B. Wasser, 21, Ottawa, assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif. Died April 8, 2004, in Anbar Province.

¢ Army Sgt. 1st Class Clinton L. Wisdom, 39, Atchison, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, Kansas National Guard, Horton. Died Nov. 8, 2004, in Baghdad.

Afghanistan
