Third-grade instructor named Master Teacher
Gerry Bakaty, a third-grade teacher at Sunflower School, on Thursday was named 2005-06 Lawrence Master Teacher.
Four parents, a former student and a citizen nominated Bakaty for the award.
“She is one of those teachers who so touches children’s lives that they continue to remember her and talk of her long after they are grown,” said Susan Gibbs, one of the parents who nominated Bakaty.
Bakaty has taught in Lawrence for the past 19 years. Her name will be forwarded to Emporia State University for consideration for state master-teacher honors.
Before teaching in Lawrence, Bakaty taught in Tonganoxie and Kansas City, Kan.
