Peeved parent

To the editor:

I am lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mother to my three young children.

Last week, some anonymous person called the police because they felt my children were “running around the neighborhood unsupervised all the time.” The policeman said the caller was someone who did not live in my neighborhood but came to pick up their child from a home daycare down the street.

Unsupervised? Maybe this person couldn’t see me watching my kids as they played on the swings in the front yard of their godfather’s house. Running around the neighborhood? Sure, they have the run of our yard, which is a corner lot. A neighbor’s driveway is their boundary.

You, caller, have taken away my peace of mind and shaken my confidence in raising my three joyful children. I am furious at having to second guess every single decision for how things must appear to a drive-through “concerned” parent. I could have a report filed on me if you call again. How dare you judge me based on so little information. Who is best at raising their children, parents or complete strangers?

Diane Myer,
