A.G. sues Lawrence towing company
Kansas Atty. Gen. Phill Kline has filed a lawsuit against a North Lawrence towing company, accusing it of violating the Kansas Consumer Protection Act.
Kline’s office announced today that Kevin Raasch, doing business as TransMasters Towing, 1549 N. Third St., “committed 14 deceptive or unconscionable acts or practices under the KCPA against six specific Kansas consumers.”
Among the allegations, Kline says the business charged “grossly excessive fees for services provided by the company.”
Kline’s office also accused the company of misrepresenting toll road policy concerning the selection of a towing company following accidents on the Kansas Turnpike.
In the lawsuit, Kline asked the court to order the defendant to pay $10,000 in civil penalties and fines for each violation of the KCPA, presently totaling $140,000, and for court costs and investigative fees.
Members of Kline’s Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division, which investigated the company, will litigate the case on Kline’s behalf.
