Eudora tops Baldwin in United Way event
Eudora residents collected 321 more pounds of spare change than Baldwin residents as part of the third annual Weigh-In for United Way Spare Change Competition.
The two cities raised $2,488 for the United Way of Douglas County and doubled their 2004 effort of $1,100. Eudora collected 653 pounds for $1,388. Baldwin collected 332 pounds for $1,150.
Eudora received a trophy during halftime of the Baldwin-Eudora football game on Oct. 27.
United Way campaign chair Ann Gardner said donations are slightly behind 2004 with about three weeks left, but only about half of local businesses have reported pledges so far.
